Leaving Invitation for Jackie Kay

Earlier in 2022, we were asked to design an invitation which would be sent out to invite people to Jackie Kay’s leaving celebration.

Jackie Kay, CBE, FRSE, FRSL, is a Scottish poet, playwright, and novelist, known for her works Other Lovers, Trumpet and Red Dust Road. Kay has won a number of awards, including the Guardian Fiction Prize in 1998 and the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust Book of the Year Award in 2011.

Jackie was appointed Chancellor of the University of Salford in 2015 and so she wanted the invitation to reflect her time there, with some of her favourite things and Salford landmarks included.

The invitation below was designed by graduate designer Hannah Kirkland, who really brought to life the vision and reflection of the theme very well. References to Peel Park, Salford Museum and Art Gallery, Castlefield Art Gallery, The Lowry and more can be spotted in the illustration.
